Self Defence and Martial Arts
Self Defence and Martial Arts Classes in Swansea
Why is it that when one advertises a self-defence course, people become more interested, than if you had asked them to join your traditional Tae Kwon Do academy? Is it because they think they will be able to defend themselves by only doing one course of self-defence? My experience is that they do.
In order to even contemplate whether there is a level of proficiency achieved when one undertakes a short self-defence course, participants often overlook the fact that there are basic techniques to master like stances, balance, coordination, how to fall, body language, distance, timing, the application of a person’s energy and power and how it is executed; a person’s fitness and flexibility level and hand and foot conditioning are all relevant to gaining effective self-defence.
All the above aspects that need to be practised beforehand are all contained within a martial art and participants would be advised to undertake training at a good quality run martial arts club like a traditional Tae Kwon Do club beforehand to develop these things.
You also get more for your money and by achieving a dan grade or black belt level which takes time, commitment and perseverance by first doing a martial art, will lead you on to other things like accreditation in teaching, coaching and referee diplomas within the tae kwon do martial art, for example.
